The “Turning Pages, Changing Lives” programme sees our students partnering with younger pupils from St John’s Angell Town CofE Primary School, creating meaningful opportunities for mentoring, storytelling and shared learning.
Through regular reading sessions, Ark Evelyn Grace students act as role models, supporting younger children to build confidence, develop literacy skills and discover a love of books. This peer-to-peer approach not only benefits the primary pupils but also enables Ark students to develop their own leadership, communication and empathy skills.
Ark Evelyn Grace Academy Principal Una Sookun said the project had shown:
“Not only the power of our community but also the power of reading.
There are no limits to what our young people can achieve and reading helps unlock their imagination and with it their potential.”
By working in partnership with local organisations, residents and community groups, our students are helping to break down barriers and create positive connections across Brixton. The project stands as a testament to our values, with community at the heart of everything we do.
