Over a third of students achieved a grade 5+ in both English and Maths. Students also made above-expected gains in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Art and Spanish.
Ark Evelyn Grace Principal, Una Sookun, said, “We are incredibly proud of all our students and they should be proud of themselves too. They leave Ark Evelyn Grace with real choices for their future, and we are excited for the next part of their journey.”
Damari Harris
Damari moved to the UK from Jamaica and joined Ark Evelyn Grace in March 2020. A week after he joined the school, the first national lockdown was declared. Like many of his peers, Damari has dealt with the challenge of having interrupted school years with optimism and resilience. He secured some of the highest grades in the school and is most proud of his Grade 9 in English Literature which reflects his love of reading. Vice Principal, John Rowley said, “Damari has always had a passion for literature and was often seen around the school reading.” Damari’s mum, Ms Barrett, said, “Teachers were very helpful...people went out of their way for us and were very invested.”
Damari achieved Grade 9s in English Lit and RE, a Grade 7 in English Language, Grade 6s in Art, Geography and Combined Science, a 5 in Maths and a 4 in Spanish. Damari will be going to Ark Globe Academy to study Psychology, Sociology and English Lit. He said: “I prayed a lot for these grades and am happy, so thank God.”
Fahiima Yuusuf
Fahima has always been very committed to her studies and was able to complete some her GCSEs early, securing a Grade 9 in English Literature and English Language in Year 9. She has added to that with a Grade 9 in Maths and has attained some of the highest grades in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Miguel Faria de Souza
Miguel moved to the UK from Portugal at the end of 2019 and joined Evelyn Grace Academy able to speak only a little English. Not only has he gone on to secure higher passes of Grade 5s in English Language and Maths, but he has juggled this with amateur ju-jitsu, taking part in international competitions whilst studying for his GCSEs.
