Construction companies Durkin and Skanska inspire KS3
Wednesday 28 June 2017
Representatives from Skanska and Durkan, two of the biggest construction companies working in London gave an insight into the world of construction and inspired our KS3 students.
The team talked to Years 7,8 and 9 during a morning assembly entitled ‘Myth Busting in the Construction Industry’ - it is not all about men in hardhats. The construction Industry is for Everyone’ ’.
Also taking part was representatives from ‘Women in Construction’ and ‘ Go Construct’. Together with 2 women and 1 male Construction Apprentice they discussed different roles such as those based in offices, creative roles and how women are now taking part in the Construction industry from bricklaying, carpentry to Architects and Quantity Surveying. Whatever your talent, skill or ambition there is a role in construction (the fastest growing industry sector in this country) for you.
A special thank you to our good friends in the industry particularly the Citb, Durkan and Skanska for their career insight session. We heard from an apprentice female Plumber and Electrician and male Apprentice architect. There really is something for everyone in this growing industry and lots of money making careers.
