Are they punishing me for my race or just for fun? Fantastic short-story by Khadija Mohamed, Year 9

Well done to Khadija Mohamed (aged 14) who gave her first Student Author read of her self-written short-story - 'Are they punishing me for my race or just for fun?'.

Khadija wrote her short story based on her love for the book called 'Lies we tell ourselves' by Robin Talley.

Her fellow peers said her story was 'thought provoking' and 'very realistic and vivid'. It inspired each student who sat in Khadija's student author read to want to write their own short-story or poetry of some form.

This was a lovely moment to see students cheering one of their own. Khadija was beaming with pride in how well her story had been receieved; as well as overcoming all nerves to atriculate her story with such elegance and grace.

Ms Edwards (EGA School Librarian), worked closely with Khadija to develop her story and had this to say:

"I am so proud of Khadija and the progress she has made in her reading.  I loved reading her story and look forward to reading more of her work in the future."

A big thank you goes to Ms Sookdew (English Teacher), Ms Edwards (School Librarian) and Mr Morrissey (Head of Year 9) for encourging Khadija throughout this process.

We can't wait for the sequel !
