Team Intellectrials win JP Morgan - The Schools Challenge Award 2016 for most innovative waste product

(Pictured - Team Intellectrials - ‘Calm Cloud’ receiving their award for most innovative product)

Over the past few months, some of our students have been working creatively and hard on their various projects in preparation for the JP Morgan Chase &  Co STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Math) Schools challenge Final.

Our students have been looking at sustainable development, using the Olympic park as a case study (as it has made use of lots of recyclable material and waste from the Olympics) for their project.

In one workshop, our students experimented and trialed different methods alongside professional engineers where they were able to  take apart and fix different objects to see if any recyclable material could be used in the making of ever day objects and how they could incorporate this into their final designs, as part of looking at sustainable development.

The Schools challenge finals took take place Tuesday 13th December 2016 at the Olympic Park Stadium. Our students where well spoken, poised and had so much fun experimenting and learning about new scientific initiatives being used to create a more eco-friendly world. Each team representing EGA performed extremely well, with Team Intellectrials - ‘Calm Cloud’ winning 1st place in their category for the most innovative waste invention; and also making it into the overall grand final as one of the TOP three inventions of the whole competition! As grand finalists, Team Intellectrails re-presented their invention to the entire audience and to Professor Brian Cox.

Our Grand Finalist’s meet with Mr Cox after the ceremony. He was so impressed with their invention, well-spoken presentation and team working skills.

We are extremely proud of all our students who took part and Team Intellectrails.
