Jack Petchey's "Speak Out" Challenge 2019 - Well done to our finalists!

(pictured: Our Jack Petchey's "Speak Out" finalists - Francisco and Osman with Mr Champion, Head of English at EGA)

On Thursday 24th January 2019, a group of our year 10 students took part in the first all day Jack Petchey's "Speak Out" challenge workshop with "Speak Out" trainer Elaine Powell, here at Ark EGA.

Student's spent the day developing their public speaking skills, and ending the day with an opportunity to present a 5 minute speech on a topic of their choice in front of Ms Powell and their peers. We saw our young people grow in confidence, learn about the power of influence through speech and listen to them speak on topics that they were truly passionate about. Topics such as 'The state of humanity', 'Being an only child' and 'Having a passion to succeed'.

The workshops continued throughout term allowing each student to compete for a position as one of our top 5.

Well done to  Osman Mahamud, Francisco Vieira Thomas, Nii Tettey, Habeeb Giwa, Jenaisha Nation who were nominated as our top 5 finalists from the workshops.

On Friday 15th November 2019 our top 5 finalists gave their speeches in our EGA Jack Petchey's "Speak Out" final; and we are proud to announce  Francisco Vieira Thomas won 1st place and Osman Mahamud as runner-up. Both will now go on to represent EGA in the Lambeth Jack Petchey's "Speak Out" challenge heats.

We wish Francisco and Mahamud all the best as they continue on through this journey to the Lambeth finals; where they will give their speeches before important delegates in Lambeth later this year.
