Baroness Young of Hornsey Visits EGA

On Thursday 29th March 2018, we had the pleasure of hosting Baroness Lola Young. Baroness Young of Hornsey came to speak to our students at the final Spring term assembly in Evelyn Grace Academy. She used music to tell us her life story and passions. She started her life in care and so played us an extract of ‘Isn’t she lovely’ by Stevie Wonder. The irony of this was not lost on our students who were captivated and inspired by her talk. She also shared a seminal piece of music called ‘The message’ which is focused on the damage caused by poverty and crime in our inner cities. Students heard about her passion for environmental issues and this was, of course, introduced by Marvin Gaye’ unforgettable piece of music entitled: ‘What’s going on?’. It was a pleasure to welcome her into our academy and the students were honoured to receive many of their awards from her. Baroness Young is a true embodiment of our value of endeavour and she allowed all of our students to realise that anything is possible if you are passionate and hard working.
