MFL (Modern Foreign Languages)

Welcome to Evelyn Grace Academy’s MFL Department

At EGA we aim to make learning a modern foreign language stimulating, engaging and interesting!  We also understand that we really need to understand how languages work (grammar) and to learn vocabulary if we want to use them in the real world for real purposes and to do well in our studies!

At Key Stage 3 all students learn either Spanish, French or Mandarin with the opportunity to learn a second language in Year 8. At Key Stage 4 students can choose from these 3 languages as a GCSE option.

We also offer a range of extra-curricular opportunities including residential trips abroad to motivate our learners and to allow students to use their language skills in an authentic context.

Our Head of Department is Ms E. Tainsh

How to support your child:

  • Get involved with your child’s homework; discuss tasks with them and the different ways which they can complete these. (KS3 students have a homework booklet to complete each half term and KS4 students have a vocabulary booklet)
  • Test your child on vocabulary – get them to teach you a few words too!
  • Familiarise yourself with the specification which your child is studying.
  • Encourage your child to take part in independent study on a regular basis, this is very important when learning a foreign language. This can be regular vocabulary learning or using online resources such as:
  • SAM Learning BBC languages (bitesize/learning zone)
  • www.languagesonline.org.uk www.espanol-extra.co.uk www.aprender.org And many more!
