Mandarin Trip- July 2019
The Mandarin Excellence Programme is a Department for Education funded initiative which is being delivered by University College London, Institute of Education in partnership with the British Council.
All students on the Mandarin Excellence Programme will need to receive eight hours of study per week, which could consist of a combination of teacher taught classroom lessons, homework, self-study and intensive study courses (in China and the UK).
The 2019 Intensive Learning in China for Year 8.1 Mandarin Excellence Programme students is going to take place during a 2 week period between 2 - 19 July 2019. At the present time we are unable to confirm the exact departure and return dates, as these will vary slightly depending on the allocated host institution in China.
Students will be based in one city for the entirety of the trip - the British Council in China are currently confirming the cities that will host the Intensive Learning in China in 2019. The confirmed locations will include Beijing, Chengdu and Shanghai, plus an additional two to three cities.
All the fees in China will be paid by the Chinese government. But students are expected to pay part of their air tickets and visa fee.
The price for flights will be in the region of £8so per person, although there will be a £350 subsidy for student flight tickets (meaning student tickets will be priced at around £soo). Visas cost around £150.
To give you a broad idea about last year's programme and to read more information about the trip, please find attached a sample programme that was produced for schools attending last year. All of this information (and more) can be found on the Mandarin Excellence Programme Edmodo group website.
If your child does not have a passport, they need to apply as soon as possible- the process can be lengthy. We request that passport details are submitted by 31 January 2019.
Students must have a passport that is valid for 6 months from the date of exit from China.
Each student will pay £650 (which includes air fare and visa fee).
If you give permission for your child to go, you can pay your total liability in 5 instalments.
Payment to be paid via school ParentPay
