End of Term Letter - July 2017
19 July 2017
I wrote to you a few months ago informing you that I will be leaving Evelyn Grace Academy at the end of this academic year. Sadly that time has now come. However, Evelyn Grace Academy and the welfare of the students and staff remain very important to me and so I want to write these few lines to you personally.
I want to thank you all for the support you have given to me and to the academy over the years. I believe very strongly that the success that our young people have in their education would not be possible without this very strong interest and support from home. My colleagues and I are so encouraged and strengthened by your support.
When I look back over the last few years, I remember one phrase from an Ofsted Report - "we are in the business of transforming lives" - this is the basis of what we have been trying to achieve here, it is the reason why I am in education, this belief that everyone can succeed, regardless of background. At the same time as I have been leading the school to believe this and put it into practice, I have been continuing to learn how to make sure that every student realises their potential. Each day, I learnt more and my conviction became stronger.
Now we are all part of an Academy that is recognised throughout the land as being a beacon of what can be achieved through hard work, self-belief and dedication. Our children are special, they can be the best. We and they are proving it every day, as our first set of 6th form students have started studying at some of the top universities in the country and others are preparing for further training or work as they choose.
As well as your support in this endeavour, I gladly acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all the staff and I don’t just mean the teaching staff, crucial as they are. All members of staff are important to me. We have been able to put into place systems and structures that will endure and the key people that make it work day by day, term by term and year by year. It is because of these systems and these people that I am able to be confident that EGA will go from strength to strength.
Leaving EGA is not easy for me and I view my time here as a journey which I have been privileged to make with some very special people. At EGA we worked together in partnership on building up the aspirations of young people, fostering their determination and drive to succeed.
EGA will always occupy a very treasured place in my heart and I remain a firm believer in the ethos of the Ark network. Together we are demonstrating that our children are the equal of any others, whatever their background and can be as successful. I know you will support the new principal and continue to support the staff and the academy, as we continue to make this true in every generation of EGA pupils.
With my prayers and very best wishes to you and your family.
